Chennai students sweep Anna University results

The Hindu dated 15 November 2006

Engineering students in Chennai and its suburbs have outdone their peers in other districts in the latest Anna University semester examination results.

The rank students' list in B.E and B. Tech put up by the university on its website (www.annauniv.edu) shows that Chennai colleges have taken the first six places in terms of the number of medals or top three ranks in almost all key branches.

St. Joseph's College of Engineering tops the list with 40 medals: Computer Science (3), Electronics and Communication (1), Electrical and Electronics (5), Electronics and Instrumentation (6), Instrumentation and Control (5), Mechanical (2), Chemical (7), Biotech (4) and Information Technology (7).

College Director Babu Manohar said the college had secured the first rank in ECE, Biotechnology and Information Technology. It was a tribute to the quality of students and inputs the college was able to provide them over their four years of study.

Velammal Engineering College Chairman M.V. Muthuramalingam said despite the institution's policy of not "blindly giving full marks in practical examinations for any student," its students had bagged 29 medals, including 10 in the Electronics and Instrumentation branch.

Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (26 medals), SRM Engineering College (last batch - 16), St. Peter's Engineering College (16), Sri Sai Ram Engineering (16) follow in the number of medallists.
