KRIEGER BRINGS VICTORY TO VELAMMAL
Team KRIEGER from Velammal was adjudged 1st among colleges in Chennai and 6th all over India surpassing teams from IITs and NITs.
SAE INDIA conducted the 5th edition of BAJA at Pithampur, Madhya P radesh from 16th to 19th of February 2012. BAJA is an event where colleges participate by designing and building ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles).
The first phase involved virtual design presentation which happened during August 2011, competed by 300 colleges from all over India of which only 100 were good enough to be shortlisted for the event. One 10HP B&S Engine was provided to each team by BAJA. The fabrication and testing of vehicles took place over the next six months.
On 16th February, all teams assembled for Safety Check which comprised of GO-NOGO Test, 45˚ Tilt Test, Technical Scrutiny, Figure of 8 Test, Brake Test.
KRIEGER was the first ATV to clear the Day 1 Proceedings in the very first attempt.
On Day 2, Static events involving presentations on Innovation, Design of Steering-Suspension & Brakes, Power Train, Build Quality, Serviceability, Cost Analysis, Feasibility of Mass Manufacturing and Marketing were conducted.
On Day 3, Dynamic Events such as Maneuverability Test, Hill Climb and Acceleration took place which determined the pole positions of the ATVs for the race.
On Race Day the ATVs had to survive a grueling 4 hour Endurance Test. Of the 88 teams, only 15 including KRIEGER made it through till the end. The teams were ranked based on the cumulative scores obtained by them in all events.
